Rubdown transfers can be color matched to virtually any shade, metallic included. Colors are manually matched to a swatch sample or Pantone code#. The ink’s creamy consistency can be varied via solvents and/or extenders to achieve various degrees of opacity. The accuracy of the match is determined by the skill of the person doing the mixing. This “mix and match” process assures a high degree of precision since the human eye is very sensitive to the slightest hue changes.
Burnishing dry transfers is easy. After separating the protective backing sheet from the transfer sheet (transfer base) the rubdown transfer is placed, adhesive side down, on the chosen substrate (paper, wood, metal, plastic, glass etc). Rubbing the burnisher back and forth while holding the transfer base securely in place causes adhesion of the image. The transfer base turns slightly milky where the transfer occurred, thereby revealing the areas that may have been missed...
Type transfer sheets sold under brand names like Letraset, Geotype, Mecanorma are well known. The emergence of the personal computer and digital printer caused them to gradually disappear from store shelves. However, even in their heyday, the stock transfer sheets were limited in variety of size, color and design. After custom dry transfer services appeared on the scene, the ability to transform any black and white image into a transferable...

The photomechanical technique utilized to make custom rubdown transfers is identical to the one used for direct image proofs. "Direct Imaging" means that the design is imaged "directly" onto the material rather than onto an intermediate carrier base. Direct imaging is not recommended for water absorbing materials and curved objects. Plastic films however...
Powerful, "buy me first" graphic designs on transparent package mockups are realized by direct imaging and/or rubdown transfer technology. Since digital printers are unable to print on unusual materials, shapes, and forms, objects such as glass bottles, plastic bottles, acetate boxes, polyethylene bags, clear folding cartons...
People prefer life to be free of complications. That truism also applies to model makers. The Model Shop's craftsmen were temporarily stumped by the unusual request of a NY architect to provide window panes showing a graduated white border.
